Funding Opportunity for Tribes

On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the Biden Administration, through the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), announced water supply projects from the Domestic Water Supplies for Disadvantaged Communities Program to assist Federally recognized Tribes and Tribal organizations in 17 western states for the planning, design, or construction of water projects to provide domestic water supplies to communities or households that do not have reliable access to domestic water supplies.  A total of $550 million will remain available through 2031 for grants, contracts, or financial assistance agreements for up to 100 percent of the cost of the planning, design, or construction of water projects.

This funding is authorized from the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Approximately 3 to 15 projects will be awarded with more awards becoming available based on overall funding.

The program will be implemented in two phases. Under Phase One, funding will be available for Planning and/or Design, or Construction in FY 2024. Phase Two (FY 2027/2028) will be made available for Construction only.

Awards are anticipated to occur in the Winter of 2024.
